Schedule Irrigations

How to schedule and edit an irrigation

Updated this week

Scheduling an Irrigation

Given the importance of easy-to-use scheduling, you can access the scheduling functionality from three sections of the web app: Irrigation Schedules from the left hand menu, the Irrigation Schedules widget on the Dashboard, and from the Blocks option on the left hand menu.

To schedule an irrigation, simply select Add from any of the above locations in the Ops Center. When selected, you’ll see a right hand menu to make your schedule selections.

When creating your schedule you can select one or multiple blocks to irrigate, choose the start date and time, and choose to make it recurring. If recurring is selected, you can choose to irrigate on certain days of the week, or by intervals, and select the end date for the recurrence (up to 60 days ahead). Lastly, you can select to irrigate by duration (up to 18 hours), or by volume per plant. Once you’ve made your selections, select Add Irrigation to enter the schedule.

Volume-based Irrigation Schedules

You have the option of irrigating a Block based on volume applied, rather than duration (time). This can be advantageous when the flow rate at a Block may be erratic, unreliable (e.g. old, deteriorating emitters), or when greater precision is preferred.

When scheduling by volume, Lumo will:

  • Start the irrigation at the scheduled time

  • Calculate an Expected End Time based on the volume goal and expected flow rate

  • Open the valve until the specified volume goal has been delivered, or until 30 minutes after the Expected End Time**

  • Close the valve when the volume goal is reached

**If the volume goal is not reached by the Expected End Time, Lumo will keep the valve open for up to another 30 minutes. After the additional 30 minutes, even if the volume goal hasn’t been reached, Lumo will close the valve.

*Volume-based irrigation is only available for single-block schedules.

Editing a Scheduled Irrigation

If you need to make changes to an existing schedule, select the irrigation. You can modify the start date, start time, end date (if recurring), and duration or volume setting of the irrigation up to 5 minutes prior to the irrigation start time.

If you are within the 5-minute window, you need to edit the block(s). If the irrigation is active, you must cancel the irrigation by selecting End Irrigation, and schedule a new irrigation with the new irrigation settings.

If you are editing or canceling an irrigation schedule that’s part of a recurring series, you will be able to choose between changing only the current event or changing this and all subsequent events.
