What Are Irrigation Sequences?
Irrigation Sequences let you schedule a large number of irrigations across multiple blocks using a few simple inputs. Instead of setting each event manually, you define your system's constraints—such as pump flow limits, start time, and duration—and Lumo generates a flow-safe, efficient schedule for you.
It’s the fastest way to build safe, scalable irrigation plans with minimal manual work.
Why Use Irrigation Sequences?
Creating dozens of irrigation events by hand is tedious and error-prone. It’s easy to misjudge flow limits, overlap sets, or leave inefficient gaps.
Irrigation Sequences solve this by:
Automatically grouping irrigation sets based on safe flow thresholds
Enforcing system limits to avoid overpressure or water hammer
Supporting drag-and-drop edits to customize your schedule
Reducing scheduling time while improving consistency
Whether you're managing a few zones or a full ranch, Irrigation Sequences simplify scheduling without sacrificing control.
How It Works
Step 1: Provide Parameters
In the Sequence Builder, enter:
Pump Limits – Set minimum and maximum safe flow (GPM)
Start Time & Duration – When the sequence begins, and how long each set runs
Offset Between Sets – Add a buffer or allow overlaps between groups
Blocks to Include – Choose which blocks to include in the sequence
Note: Only blocks with either emitter + plant count data or a calibrated Smart Baseline will be available for selection.
Step 2: Review and Confirm Groupings
Lumo automatically creates groupings based on the parameters you set.
You can:
View flow totals (GPM) for each group
Adjust timing or order as needed
Drag and drop blocks to reassign groups (flow rules still apply)
Step 3: Create the Sequence
When you're satisfied with the setup, click Create Sequence. Lumo will execute the schedule, ensuring each set follows your defined parameters.
Key Features
Auto Grouping – Groups blocks based on safe flow thresholds
Event Offsets – Adds buffer time or overlap between irrigation sets
Drag & Drop Overrides – Adjust groupings manually while respecting flow constraints
One-Click Setup – Build full sequences with just a few inputs
Auto-Adjust Schedules – (Coming soon) Maintains timing relationships when editing
Tips & Best Practices
Use historical irrigation data to validate your system’s flow limits
Add positive offsets between sets to allow pressure to recover
Use negative offsets to minimize total runtime when safe
Manually review schedules on hilly terrain to account for pressure differences
Known Limitations
Sequences do not yet account for elevation-based pressure differences between blocks
Pump automation is not currently supported (planned for a future release)
FAQ
Do I need to configure each block manually?
No. After selecting the blocks and entering your constraints, Lumo builds the schedule automatically.
Can I make manual changes?
Yes. Use drag and drop to rearrange blocks within groups. The system will still enforce flow rules.
Why can’t I select a specific block?
A block must have either:
Emitter + Plant Count data
OR a calibrated Smart Baseline
Blocks missing both will not appear in the Sequence Builder.
