High Flow Rate Reported

Troubleshooting a higher flow rate than expected in Ops Center

Updated over 4 months ago

You may notice a higher than expected flow reading when viewing Flow Vision in the Lumo Ops Center.

To identify the reason, please follow the steps below.

Step 1: Rule out false alarms

  • Determine if the block specifications, including the vine count, emitter rate, and number of emitters per plant have been entered into the Lumo Ops Center correctly. Incorrect information can lead to a false alarm.

    • On the Blocks page, click to expand the menu on the right-hand side of the block to review

    • Select ‘View block details”

    • Verify information

Step 2: Check the block’s Smart Baseline

The Smart Baseline feature adjusts the expected flow rate for a block if the average actual flow rate differs from the calculated flow rate from block specifications. If the Smart Baseline has some incorrect baseline inputs, then the predicted flow rate could be lower than the actual flow rate, leading Lumo to believe there is a high flow rate during an otherwise normal irrigation.

  • To review the Smart Baseline configuration, view a recent irrigation in Flow Vision

  • To reset Smart Baseline, follow the process above to view block details, then click the “Reset Smart Baseline” button at the bottom of the screen and follow the prompts

Step 3: Check for Line Breaks and Leaks

If you’ve verified that the block specifications and Smart Baseline are accurate, check your irrigation system for line breaks. A dislocated or broken water line decreases resistance, and increases flow.

Examples of common leaks

  • Broken riser

  • Missing or broken emitters

  • Animal damage from coyotes or foxes

  • Air vents stuck in the open position
