Emergency Open/Close Procedure

Use this procedure to manually force a Lumo valve open or closed when the Control Button is unresponsive.

Updated today

Force Open a Valve

Disconnect the longer tube from the port closest to the Control Button (labeled "C" on newer hardware).

2025 Version and Earlier (Threaded Nuts)

  1. Unscrew the nut securing the tube to the port on the dome.

  2. Pull the tube off the port.

2026 Version (Quick Connect Ports)

  1. Push in the round tab on the quick connect.

  2. While holding the tab in, pull the tube out of the quick connect port.

To close the valve after forcing it open, reconnect the tube. This process is the same for both the 2" and 4" valve.

Force Close a Valve

If a valve is stuck open and unresponsive, use one of the following methods to stop water flow.

Method 1: Close an Upstream Manual Valve (Preferred)

If there is a manual valve upstream of the Lumo valve, close it and keep it closed until a Lumo technician can service the system.

Method 2: Increase Spring Tension

If there is no upstream manual valve, increase spring tension to seal the diaphragm shut.

2" Valve

  1. Use a flat-edge tool to pry off the black cap.

  2. Using the Lumo wrench (included in your Field Kit) or a pair of pliers, turn the spring tension nut clockwise until it stops and the diaphragm seals shut.

4" Valve

  1. Turn the spring tension handle clockwise until it stops and the diaphragm seals shut.
